Poker Datamining

Posted in Uncategorized with tags on June 25, 2009 by londonemedia

Poker datamining differs quite a lot from traditional data mining.

First of all “datamining” is often spelled in one word when it is in a poker context, even though the normal way of spelling it is “data mining”. The source of this is probably just a misspelling, however, it has become so widespread that it can hardly be seen as a wrong way of spelling it anymore.

Datamining also has a different meaning when it is in a poker context – It refers to the act of gathering date (hand histories). Traditional data mining means to extract information from large amounts of data by analyzing it.

Dogwatch Handgrabber

Dogwatch were a handgrabber for Bodog Poker. It allowed players to save hand histories in a Pokertracker compatible format, and that way use the program with Bodog Poker. It also enabled you to datamine on Bodog, since it basically just saved hand histories from any table you opened in Bodog’s poker client.

The Dogwatch handgrabber no longer exists, and I haven’t been able to reach the people who created it – admittedly, I only spent 30 minutes looking, but I think it is safe to assume that they don’t intend to review the program.

Handgrabber or Hand Grabber?

Posted in Uncategorized on June 15, 2009 by londonemedia

There seems to be quite a bit of confusion when it comes to spelling hand grabber handgrabber.

The source of this is that Idleminer – The company the sell most of the handgrabbers on the market today, has a series of handgrabbers which all has “Hand Grabber” as part of their name.

In addition there are a bunch of non-poker products that has “hand grabber” as part of their name.

Grabber Hand Warmers

I might add that these are pretty handy to have around when you go skiing.

“Unfortunately” pretty much all seasoned poker players use handgrabber. This can be the source of quite a lot of confusion, and there doesn’t seem to be any kind of consensus on how to spell it in sight.

Personally I prefer handgrabber and that is what I will be writing on the blog, unless I’m talking about Idleminer’s Hand Grabber products.

What is a Handgrabber

Handgrabbers are a kind software used by poker players. Their purpose is to grab (save) hands (hand histories), which is also called datamining.

The reason poker players datamine, it to gain information about their opponents. The hand histories they gather enable them to get stats from programs like pokertracker, and that way gain an advantage over them.
